When to prune oak (oak wilt timing)
Midwinter dormant season (coldest months). Fresh wounds attract sap beetles that carry the oak wilt fungus. Infection risk is highest in spring and early summer. Prune in the dormant season, and seal or paint any unavoidable wound right away.
